Abstract

|
Cefazolin, a new cephalosporin derivative, was given in 30 cases with various types of infections.
The drug was administered intramuscularly 1.0 to 2.0 grams daily in 2 to 4 divided doses for three to thirty-one days. An excellent to satisfactory results were obtained in 25 cases out of 30. Similar, results were obtained in four cases out of six with gram-positive bacterial infections and in 15 cases out of 18 with gram-negative bacterial infections. Drug rashes, with pruritus were observed in one case, which faded in several days upon discontinuation of the drug. However, no adverse changes were seen during and after the medication in the routine blood counts, urinalysis, liver and kidney function tests.
